C. Ross Ethier

Professor C. Ross Ethier is the Lawrence L. Gellerstedt, Jr. and Mary Duckworth Gellerstedt Chair in Bioengineering, Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology & Emory University School of Medicine, as well as a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University. He received his Ph.D. from MIT in 1986.

Professor Ethier’s research is in the biomechanics of cells and whole organs, with specific emphasis on ocular biomechanics. His research has generated 3 books, 7 book chapter, more than 230 refereed journal articles, over 500 conference and seminar presentations, 4 patents, and 4 invention disclosures. In recognition of his work, he has received the Lissner Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. His work has attracted more than 18,000 citations and has an h-index of 81.

Prof. Ethier is the Founding Chair of the Bioengineering Society (UK) and has served on the following bodies: Board of the Biomedical Engineering Society, World Council of Biomechanics, US National Committee on Biomechanics (executive member), and Bioengineering Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (Chair). He is elected as a Fellow from these organizations: American Society of Mechanical Engineers; American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering; International Academy for Medical and Biological Engineering; Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology; and the Biomedical Engineering Society.
